Deep black-red colour. Truffle and forest floor aromas mixed with cigar box and pencil.
On the palate, juicy red and dark berries, vanilla and oak. The finish is savoury with long lingering tannins.
The name Hartenberg comes from the Afrikaans and means ‘heart of the mountains’. The Hartenberg wine estate is located in the Stellenbosch region, 54 kilometres east of Cape Town. It covers around 150 hectares, two thirds of which are planted with vines. There are nine different soil structures on the 100 hectares of vineyards. In addition, very different microclimatic conditions can be found on Hartenberg. The optimum cultivation area and the most suitable soil type are therefore selected for each grape variety. Almost all grape varieties native to the Cape are cultivated. Carl Schultz has been responsible for the wine cellar since 1993. Under his leadership, Hartenberg Estate has developed into one of South Africa's leading wine estates. The Merlot and Shiraz are among the best in the entire Cape region. Carl Schultz received the ‘Winemaker of the Year’ award for his Merlot in 2005 and is a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild.
